CLINICAL RESEARCHIn recent years MediServ is and has conducted numerous Phase II, Phase III and Phase IV studies and has assisted in Phase I trials for pharmaceutical companies in 12 countries, especially in the Benelux and Germany. Frequently studies are multinational and multicentre. Recently projects have been executed in the developing areas of clinical trials with nutriceuticals, medical devices and pharmacoeconomics. Study related activities by MediServ take place in the Benelux. However, thanks to our membership of the International Full-service CRO PSN (Pharmaceutical Service Network) these activities can be realised in the whole EU and in North America. The headquarter of PSN LLC is located Staunton, USA with a affiliate office in Madrid, Spain. Our service on clinical research ranges from the development of the study design, of the protocol and the CRF’s; selection, setting-up and periodical monitoring of centres; collection and processing of the study data into a final statistical report, and the final study report . If desired the text design for a publication can be prepared for placement in a scientific or another journal in various languages. Reporting If required the final study report will be written according to the current version of the ICH guidelines and the last edition of the Declaration of Helsinki. This involves a detailed reporting of all relevant study data, and in necessary preparation of a publication. For further information use the link to "medical writing". Research areasSince MediServ’s foundation, already in 1980,the research areas in which clinical trials have been/are being performed are: analgesics, antibiotics, antimycotics, arthritis and associated rheumatic disorders, blood substituens, cardiology, hypercholesterolaemia, CNS (Alzheimer, depression, panic disturbances, tension headache) , dermatology, ENT, enzymes, gastroenterology, GSM disturbances, hormones, hypertension, hypnotics, medical devices, NSAIDs, opthalmology, orthopaedics, paediatrics, psychopharmacons, traumatology, urology, X-ray contrast media.

STATISTICAL SERVICES Services include statistical statements for study protocols, sample size calculation, data management, double data entry, quality control, statistical evaluation and reporting, prospective and retrospective analyses, meta-analysis and cost benefit calculations. The statistical analysis plan is intended to be a comprehensive and detailed description of the methods and presentation of data, proposed for a clinical trial. The statistical analysis plan should be included in the protocol. It may be contained in the body of the protocol, or it may be summarised and detailed in the appendix. When MediServ is involved in the development of the protocol, the statistical analysis plan still is reviewed/updated before the analysis begins. All reviews/adaptations/extensions of the statistical analysis plan are performed before the blinding code is broken (or before analysis begins in an "unblinded" trial). Any changes in the statistical analysis plan are justified and fully documented in the statistical report. Contents The statistical analysis plan: - States the variables that are considered in the analysis. Adetailed definition is given of these variables. Primary, secondary, and supportive endpoints are clearly identified. - Specifies the hypotheses to be tested and/or the parameters that are to be estimated in order to meet the trial objectives. - States the populations on which the evaluations are based. A detailed definition is given of the subject populations and the type of primary analysis is stated (e.g. intention to treat, 'as randomised', efficacy evaluable, etc.). Procedures of handling withdrawals and protocol deviations are mentioned. - Gives a full and detailed description of the methods of analysis and presentation provided for each type of data. Consideration is given to the following: Methods for handling multiple observations Methods for handling multicentre data Rules for derived variables-use of baseline values Use of covariate data Analysis of subgroups Interim or sequential analysis Rules for stopping the trial Methods for handling missing data Use of tabulation and/or other presentation methods Levels of statistical (and clinical) significance Use of confidence intervals.
REGULATORY AFFAIRSMediServ is founded in 1980 in principle as an organization for regulatory affairs. In 1982 we started with the first clinical trials, but the registration services are maintained till today. For registration we are specialised in applications in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. For the Netherlands MediServ co-operates, when necessary, with Baggerman Farma Consult, Eindhoven. Additionally we have access to regulatory affairs in other European countries, such as Spain, France, Scandinavia and the United Kingdom. Since 1980 MediServ has been actively involved in about 200 registration dossiers and over 500 submissions of special issues (for instance related to new regulations). The clients have come from 181 pharmaceutical companies from 11 nations in the European Union and the United States of America. The services include: Complete registration dossiers for application Special assignments (TSE etc.) Production or evaluation of expert reports Production or evaluation of the Summary of Product Characteristics Production or evaluation of the Patient Information Sheet Production or evaluation of package labels. We are available for preparation of and/or presence on hearings of registration committees.
MEDICAL WRITING AND TRANSLATIONSMediServ can offer services in the following areas supported by a wide dimension of knowledge and experience in these areas: Medical writing Professional translations Synopses Many forms of writing or translation of medical issues can be provided, varying from dissertations to articles for scientific manuscripts or publications. The languages are primarily English, Dutch and German, but it is possible to discuss (an)other language(s). In the later case an appropriate member of PSN (Pharmaceutical Service Network), our international organization in various countries of Europe and North-Africa, would be involved. The founder of MediServ, Jan Janbroers, has beenmember of the international Advisory Editional Board of the Good Clinical Practice Journal (Brookwood Medical Publications, U.K.) and was author of various articles. Synopses Synopses are possible in the medical, pharmaceutical and/or pharmacological areas. MULTINATIONAL STUDIES Using MediServ will gain you access to the full range of services needed for successful clinical research & development in a multinational environment. Background In general in Phase II a small, carefully selected numbers of relevant subjects are treated in single centre trials to evaluate the efficacy, safety, tolerance and possibly the pharmacokinetic characteristics of the drug under investigation. During Phase III confirmatory studies, enough data from a sufficient number of relevant subjects in more realistic circumstances need to be collected within a fixed time-frame. This is usually achieved through the organisation of multicentre/multinational studies. Multicentre trials present their own challenges, such as: - Consistency between the centres, facilitated by investigator meetings, training and careful monitoring. - Consistency in subject intake, which can be assured by a balanced distribution of subjects and treatment arms of over the centres. Multinational studiesInternational studies are sometimes necessary for a comparison between patient populations, and/or to test the medicine or device in countries using the appropriate regulatory or marketing conditions for products. Achieving a sufficient number of subjects can also lead to the choice of a multinational study. The aim of MediServ is to provide reliable, quick and flexible services for national and international clinical trials, not limited by company size and resources. MediServ, itself, operates in the Netherlands and Belgium for geographic reasons: Eindhoven being in the centre of the Benelux. Further, MediServ is member of PSN LLC (Pharmaceutical Service Network), an international full service CRO, covering Europe and Northern America. Multinational trials are organised efficiently within the PSN , through an unique and standardised system of cooperation. The services are based on the MediServ Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the general PSN SOPs, or those of the sponsor - whichever is preferred.Through this unique organisation a favourable price/benefit ratio can be offered. One of the most important advantages of the structure of multinational trials by PSN is that, in principle only one contract can be discussed and negotiated between the sponsor and the PSN organization. All participating PSN members organize nationally the necessary documents to start a trial, such as notification to the health authorities and central and local Ethics Committees and translation of the patient information sheet and informed consent according to the local requirements. Furthermore, in the pre-study period each participating PSN member will judge the study and content of the protocol, and advise on any necessary adaptations for national requirements.

This is a very interesting and upcoming market. At the beginning of September, a general PSN meeting was held in Copenhagen. The decision was taken to set focus on Age Related Research, being a well respected specialist CRO in that part of clinical research. And it was time again for the yearly photo shoot. The outcome will be seen at the end of the year with MediServ’s annual Season’s Greeting. Herewith some pictures of the social event that followed after the official photo’s were taken.
